CyberLibr

Libraries are centers where most information is stored and disseminated for different types of users. Regardless of their type and size, all libraries act as a major source of information with the objective of facilitating access into existing recorded knowledge.

CyberLibr provides the advantage of performing the tedious tasks of operating a library with reliable efficiency and considerably short time.

BASIC  FEATURES

  • DATA ENTRY: The system provides a user-friendly interface for detailed book-information entry, periodical updates, and member information entries. Members are provided with a password which they are required to supply to gain access to the system. The system checks whether the user has the proper credentials, whether or not the membership expiration date has passed, and whether or not the required book is available for borrowing;

  • SECURITY: The library system gives due attention to security. Different security levels are assigned for different users so that a user can access only the parts of the system he or she is authorized to access by the system administrator. Data Entry, Report Generation and Search functionalities are all designed to work with sufficient security considerations.

  • AMHARIC SUPPORT: Book titles, Author names, Publisher, subtopics and keywords can all be written in the Amharic language. The system employs many Amharic fonts for writing and display.

  • SEARCHING: With advanced searching functionality incorporated, CyberLibr makes it possible to search publications by title, author, publisher, subject area, keyword and subtopic. Knowing only part of the title is enough to search a required book. The result of a search produces detailed information such as the edition, year of publication, status (available, borrowed), etc. It is also possible to search in Amharic by title, author name, publisher, subtopic and keywords.

    Users can search books by title, author, subject area, keyword, etc. from the network if their computer is connected to one. Network search is possible in both Amharic and English.

  • REPORTS: CyberLibr generates many useful reports such as list of books/periodicals whose due date has passed; and the list of borrowed, frequently borrowed, reserved and popular items. Information on spot reading and borrowing for a given interval are also generated, as are the list of members whose membership expires in a given interval of time and the list of removed books. The reports generated can easily be exported to Microsoft Excel for further processing at the click of a single button.

  • ELECTRONIC REMINDERS: The librarian can send electronic messages to members who do not return books on their due dates. The librarian can also inform interested members that reserved books are returned.

  • CLIENT/SERVER ARCHITECTURE: The system runs on different client machines that are connected to database server.

  • HELP: CyberLibr incorporates a detailed user manual and online help system.
